Kitakata has many Kura (traditional storage buildings) and is known as the town of Kura.
Kitatata art museum is located on the west side of Kitakata city. This area is the cultural zone and containes Kitakata plaza culture centre, Oshikirigawa Park gym and base ball field and Kura no Sato, which is a museum of traditional Kura.
Kitakata art museum is built in the style of traditional brick kura, constructed using bricks from Kitakata’s historic brick kiln and in-accord with the towns architecture. The museum is small and in-keeping with its surroundings.
The museum doesn’t have a permanent exhibition but runs a program of exhibitions. The museum aims to closely reflect the needs of the local people, especially in the summer when the museum endeavors to exhibit family friendly art.
